BCWC is working to reduce nitrogen by tackling it at its source, septic systems. We support municipal sewer expansion, however as the CWMP shows, it will take many years and some areas in the town of Barnstable are not expected to get sewer. We can’t wait to work on a solution. We have a pilot project in a neighborhood near Shubael Pond where we are installing innovative and alternative septic (I/A) septic systems and testing their effectiveness at reducing nitrogen from septic systems. In 2021, BCWC installed eight I/A systems as part of our Shubael Pond I/A Septic System Project. With the winter-like weather behind us, we continued the project with four more installations starting last week.
